More important info on investing.

Derivatives are a type of security that derives their value from other security types, like futures and options. They’re often used to increase returns while minimising the risk of losing money.*

How do we allocate earnings to your account?

We use “units” to value your super. The price of these units frequently goes up and down – usually every day. Each dollar you invest is allocated a certain number of units based on the unit price on the day we receive your money.

When the value of the investments rises or falls, we adjust the unit price up or down. Your account balance is calculated by multiplying the number of units you have by the unit price at any given time.

Each investment option has a different unit price because they all grow at different rates. There’s also a difference in the unit price when you invest your money to the unit price when you take your money out. This is called the buy/sell spread and allows for the transaction costs incurred whenever investments are bought and sold. Check out our Product Disclosure Statement for information about buy/sell spreads.

*The Trustee does not directly invest in any derivatives. However, where applicable, the managers of the underlying investments may use such investments indirectly as a hedging device to help protect the value of assets against a significant decline in investment markets.
